ABOUT ME
Born in 1989 in Dąbrowa Górnicza. She graduated of Faculty of Ceramisc and Glass at the Eugeniusz Geppert Acaemy of Art and Design. Studied in the Studio of Architectural Glass Design led by Ph.D. Ryszard Więckowski and I Studio of Glass Design led by Prof. Kazimierz Pawlak. In 2013 she obtained her master degree with honors and since that time has been an assistent at Studio of Architectural Glass Design and Studio of Basic Stained Glass Design conducted by Ph.D. Ryszard Więckowski. During her studies she has received, among others, scholarship of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, scholarship of Mayor of City of Wrocław and City Of Dąbrowa Górnicza as well as scholarschip of Ministery of Science and Higher Education. She realized three individual exhibitions and participated in numerous of group exhibition at home and abroad. Has won several competitions, both national and international in the field of glass, design, graphics and painting. Artistic actions of Kalina Bańka mainly teeter on the border of glass design, graphics and painting.
STATEMENT
Broken, destroyed, often unnoticeable elements of the city reality have disturbed harmony of my way and they have become a pretext... My main inspiration is the city. I choose urban motives or elements to later create my works. I take power distribution boards, electrical transformers together with scraps of posters, stickers, graffiti, scratches or rust and turn them into small pieces od art. I cannot ignore them, althought most people remain totally indifferent to them. I exloration of traditional crafts and present them in a completely new, non-standard context, by decorating glass with my motives showing a strong contemporary urban character. I often combine of traditional techniqes and glass design technology with the modern style of my graphics, merging the past and the present.
